problem with tape

Hi guys,

I have one server with be 12.5 (yes i know, is very old).

From 3 weeks i have a problem with a tape lto 3 (400gb) on hp ultrium (Its works perfecrly since 2007)

Only one tape of set fails: the error is "tape  full" (it fails around 70%).

This is not possibile becouse the selection list of the job its only 250gb, and tape can backup 400gb compressed.

I replaced the tape with two new differents tapes (always lto3), but the problem perstists

Any suggests?

5230 Appliance Setup issues

We cannot get past the hostname/dna page while configuring a 5230 with 2.7.2 on it.  The cli is also having issues where it will not accept or allow us to add a nameserver.

" netbackup appliance: failed to validate the host name. if the server does not use dns, in the host name resolution section, enter the ip address, the fully qualified host name (fqhn), and the short host name. click "+" to add the entries, then click "next"."

all info is correct.

We tried everything, edit the host files. rebuilt a dns server for this, etc.

thoughts?  this is a brandnew 5230

Backing Up Exchange 2010

We have SSR 2013 r2 installed on our Exchange Server 2010 on Windows Server 2012 r2.

We currently have three volumes on it. One volume for the exchange databases(Y:\), another one for the exchange logs(Z:\) and the last for the system(C:\). 

My question is, how do I perform a backup of the exchange databases and DAG when the databases and logs are on different volumes?

When I do the backup, it starts with the logs volume and then finsihes 12 hours latter with backing up the database volume. Won't my logs and databases be out of sync when the database volume backup begins?

Checking Size of Backup Images on Expired Tapes

Hi,

I have customer where they want to IMPORT an Image from Expired Tapes. All is good so far and the IMPORT of an Image is taking long (which is normal).

The Only concern i have is there any way to check the sizes of the Images? so that i can import an appropriate Image by checking the size.

Below screen shot shows the image i am trying to Import ( all i want if there is way to check the size of the IMAGE on EXPIRED Tape)

How to configure flashbackup-windows policy ?

Master/Media : NBU Appliance version 2.7.1

NBU Client Agent : 7.7.1

Policy Type : FlashBackup-Windows

Backup Selection : \\. D:\

after I configure this and click OK but have error :Snapshot could not be create with auto method."

Error code 71: None of the files mentioned inthe file list exist or may not be accessible.

master server moving from AIX to RHEL

Our NBU 7.1.0.4 master server will be moving to RHEL in the near future, to allow us to upgrade to 7.7+.

Our libraries are Quantum i6000, fiber attached to multiple media servers.

Question, will the new RHEL master server require an HBA to control the tape library? Or can it be controlled via LAN?

It will not be a media server.

Does the RHEL need to be a stand alone server or could it reside within a VM environment?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi All,

NBU VERSION: - 7.6.1
OS - 2012

One of my vm client backup is failing with 156 and Vm team able to create and delete the snaps manually and system writers are also stable on the server side.

Error from detail job summary :-

Vmware_freeze vixapi freeze (VMware snapshot) failed with 1 - unrecognised error
An error occurred while saving the snap shot :failed to quiesce the virtual machine

Vfm_freeze

Please confirm whether “virtual disk” service is required mandate to start in the server as its in stopped state .

I need a solution

Updated a bunch of clients to NetBackup 7.7.2 and then ran this query to see which might have been missed.  It's showing most of the updated clients as older version.  Also lists some clients which were decommissioned years ago. Is there a way to refresh OpsCenter?

Greetings,

       This week I need to stop all backups (Data center maintenance). I know that I can use the bpdown -v -f commands. However will I also need to do this on any Media Servers as well or just the master server?

Cleanup data from non-existing machines

I need a solution

In our organisation we often have staff for a very short period. (6 months f.e.) During these 6 months their machines are backed up with DLO.When they leave, the machine gets wiped and loaded with a clean OS. The machine keeps it's existing hostname afterwards and gets used by a new user.

This results in a bunch of backups filling my DLO whilst the users are permanently gone.

What is the best way to get rid of the data of users that do not exist anymore in the company?

SLP version change - Does it affect currently running duplication jobs?

Hello All,

I am referring to the process outlined here : https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH...

I have a large number of duplication jobs that are falling behind and I have changed added a second storage unit to a new Storage Unit Group then changing duplication target on the SLP to this new group.

Of course this does not affect the images created under the first version of the SLP. I need to edit the previous version of the SLP.

The article above is pretty straight forward on how to do that but I'm wondering if a duplication job is running at the time I modify its version will it possibly cause a failure of that job?

Assuming that: 

- The source does not change

- The current storage unit being used by the running duplication job is in the new storage unit group.

Can anyone offer a hint into what we may expect? Do we need to suspend duplication and wait for all jobs to finish before making this modification?

Build restore client list from images, not policies

CURRENTLY - When restoring data. the client list to select from, is built from a scan of the current policies.

However, as clients change, clients may no longer exist in policies.

I have a work around by placing deleted clients in a deleted.client policy, but there is then no mechanism to remove them once the backups expire.

I would like to have the restore process scan the db/images directory for client directories with valid backups and build the client list there.

Many times my co-admins have built clients with variations in case, or short name vs long name, and there may be backups out there to restore that I never see because the current client is all that shows to restore.

Moving our Netbackup ES 7.1.0.4 from AIX 6.1 to RHEL 6 running Netbackup 7.7.  Current config is 1 master and 4 media servers.  We will keep three media servers on AIX 7 and replace the master server with RHEL.  Any suggestions on hardware config would be appreciated.  We have 100 clients running on AIX 7.1, less than a dozen RHEL clients.  We interface with a two i6000 Quantum robots, 9 tape drives, one with 8 tape drives, one with 1 tape drive.

Move master/media/TL to different rack

Hi All,

We need to Move master/3 media servers/TL which is connected to master to a different rack. Below points i need to confirm for this activity:

1. DC team will do this activity(un-cable master/media/TL from old and re-cable to new rack) .Is there any other task they have to perform or keep in mind?

2. Do we need to involve vendor as well in this activity?

3. Is there any order in which we have to move these devices?

4. From NBU perspective we need to keep a record for current network configuration in case of any issue after movement and shut down NBU services on master and all media servers. Is there anything else?

Any other things do we need to keep in mind while doing this activity?

Client server :

OS: AIX

Netbackup: NetBackup 7.5

I am unable to communicate with a client server. When tried doing bptestbpcd for the server, I am getting the mentioned error:

SSR 2013 R2 SP5 Granular Restore option empty on exchange 2010

As the the above forum is closed for additonal comments, I am opening up a new one as I too had this issues.

I complete my backup of exchange and my GranularRestore.log file shows the following error.

21.99 1.78 1.78 There is an error in XML document (6977, 31) – GranularRestore.log

I check the ExhcnageBackup.eif file and notice the "&" sign. 

In aritcle 000081439, http://www.veritas.com/docs/000081439 , it says there will be a hot fix to fix this issue. How do I get this hotfix. 

Also, option 1, is not possible for us as we have almost 1,000 accounts.
