Backup job stalled

I need a solution

Hi All

I have a backup job which is running but no data transfers are taking place.

The Elapsed Time is incrementing but the Byte Count remain static.
The transfer rate is showing as 2.00mb/min when it is usually between 500mb and 2000mb.
The server being backed up is showing the beremore job reading data in task manager but the file sizes are not changing on the backup disks in file explorer or the media tab in BE. There is stacks of overwritable media.

I have applied windows updated to all servers oncerned but jobs have run since then and have progressed at the normal speeds.

Any ideas where to look next?

Startup remote administration console after upgrade to 7.7.

HI all,

I have done upgrade in environment test NetBackup 7.5.0.6 to 7.7.
The migration is gone ok, but I have ad error when I try to login into Remote Administration Console 7.7.

The error is:

I have tryed to follow this post for recreate the certificate, but without success.

Do you have idea to resolve?

How to Migrate Netbackup Master/media Server to one physical machine to another with same OS

I need a solution

Dear All,

I need to move the master server from current machine to another machine, kindly recommend a solution considering below facts:

  • Master server contains all NBU roles (it is the only server NBU in my backup environment) on the this machine.
  • Current machine is Dell’s r720 rack mount server with Dell’s tape library attached to it directly via FC, master server is running on windows server 2012 r2 64bit
  • The Second machine to which i need to migrate is Dell’s T5400 tower server with a functional FC card attached, windows server 2012 r2 64bit installed.
  • I will keep the same computer name, IP address of master server as current master server.

Kindly help ASAP.

Excessive Port Denies

We recently got a complaint from our Information Security Office indicating that our Master server was attempting to connect to all of the virtual machines in our virtual environment over port 137.  The firewall between the master server and the virtual machines was alerting them that there were excessive firewall denies.  I created a new case with Veritas, and asked them to provide documentation on what purpose this communication served.  They couldn't explain what the communication was for.  Since we couldn't determine what the communication was for, we had to turn off NetBIOS over TCP/IP on that interface, which stopped the problem.

However, in order to upgrade the software, we have to have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled.

Does anyone know why this port would be used, and why it would be attempting to connect to all the virtual machines?  According to the Firewall Port Requirements, port 137 is only used for SQL client hosts using a "remote registry service."  But there are no SQL clients in that vCenter.

restore failing with 85

I need a solution

When I do the restore using Host properties --> Master server --> General Server --> Media Host Override the restore is failing with error code 85, Media read error.

The is the error which I am getting.

I tried using the same same bufffer size as a soure media server(Media server used for backup) but still its failing.

How to verify if my client has oracle agent installed in it?

Hi,

This is somewhat related to one of my earlier post.

I have a client with db on it.

NBU client ver is 6.5.4.

However, there is no oracle agent installed. I dont have the installation cd.

I can't successfully do a update_dbclients.

So what I did was:

- update client with ver 6.5.5 (NB_CLT_6.5.6_351567.tar)

- install NB_ORA_6.5.6_351582.tar

Installation is success.

How to verify if the Oracle agent is installed?

How to extend the dedup diskpool without data migration?

Hi,

Here is my backup system environment:

- 1 Master server (windows, NBU 7.5.0.4)

- 2 Media servers (Windows, NBU 7.5.0.4) - Dedup disk pool configured

- 2 Media servers (Windows, NBU 7.5.0.4) - Advanced disk pool configured.

- D2D2T, SLP policies configured to migrate data from disk to tape for longer retention.

I found that Advanced disk is easy to extend the space, just create new disk volume from SAN storage then merge to existing disk pool. The drawback is it has no data dedup feature, the free space is running out increasingly.

Here is my questions:

1. Is it possible to directly convert existing advanced disk pool to dedup disk pool without to migrate date?

2. As from KB https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.0000..., the dedup disk pool has to be created from a single disk volume and the extention means to recreate and migrate data. Is it a better way to extend dedup disk pool? Is it possible to increate the disk volume size on SAN storage then OS then reconfigure something on NBU to recognize the new bigger disk volume?

3. We found data transfer from dedup to tape is slighly slow when comparing to advanced disk. Is there any way to improve the data transfer performance on dedup diskpool type?

4. Is there the tool to estimate the required dedup diskpool size to support backup data ?

But READ ME says..

2) Log in as the Oracle user and shut down all Oracle instances. (Recommended)

Does it mean "DB DOWNTIME"??

Backup exec 15 agent error 1603 on exchange 2007 server

I need a solution

Hello Guys,

1) I uninstalled the agent of backup exec 12.5 from my exchange and rebooted and then installed remotely the agent of backup exec 15 . It apparently completed succesfully and even asked me to reboot the server for it to be applied.

2) After the reboot , i tried adding the exchange server to backup exec 15 but kept failing.  I can see the agent on add remove programs on my exchange server and the agent version is 14.2.1180 . 

3) Backup exec 15 troubleshooting solution for some reason was to install the agent locally even though it seems installed.  Anyway I ran the agent locally and it came up maintenance local install window and clicked on repair but yet again it failed.

The 2 failed messages are the below:

query related to robot controlled drive

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

I have a query related to robot controlled drive. I have IBM 3310 tape library. In this library, one of the drive will control the robot. 

Now, when I zoned this robot controlled drive to master server and one of the media server. In netbackup I try to configure robot on master and drive on media server. I am not using SSO.

1) Will I be able to  configure drive on media server?

2) Will I be able to backup using media server?

If someone has tested this, please share your experience.

Slow Backups from one array but not another

I need a solution

I have a file server with two arrays. Array 1 backups up anywhere from 900MB/min to 1300MB/min on a good day. Array 2 backups up at around 2800MB/min consistently. They are both connected to the same RAID controller on the same server. The same type of data is on both arrays, lots and lots of small office documents. 

Array 1:

- RAID 5 300GB 15k SAS drives

- Not in a degraded state

Array 2:

- RAID 1 2TB 7.2k SATA Drives

- No in a degraded state

What can I check to determine why Array 2 is so much faster than Array 1?

Advise on how to uninstall Backup Exec 15 manually

I need a solution

I recently installed Backup Exec 15 on a server with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.  After a batch of Windows Updates, BE stopped working.

Initially, I tried doing a repair; it failed.  I then tried to uninstall BE through Control Panel\Programs and Features to do a clean install; that too failed.  I was able to uninstall LiveUpdate and SQL.

At this point, I have manually deleted the BE folders in Program Files (x86), ProgramData and the Symantec folder on my D drive where I installed the product.  I've also removed all the keys mentioning Backup Exec from the registry.  When I try to kick off a fresh install it prompts me to do a repair or uninstall, both of which fail.

Clearly the install is still finding remnants of the previous install.  Any help on where to locate these leftover files, or how to do a clean install and get around this would very much appreciate as we don't have a service contract.

I need a solution

A server running Windows Server 2008 and BESR 2010 crashes.

I am attempting to perform a crash dump analysis but I get an error saying that: "Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for symsnap.sys".

I am not sure that the BSOD is related to symsnap.sys, but I need the symbols for Windows dump analysis in order to complete the analysis.

Where an I locate the requested symbols?

bplabel error

I need a solution

I just unboxed some new tapes and added them to the robot.  The rules that assign the media id when the tape is first inventoried are pretty general.  I want to be more specific.  Before I back anything up onto the new tape I want to manually set the media id.

The barcode of the new tape is 000058 and that is also the new media id.  I want to change the media id to C00058.  I assigned the tape to the proper volume pool - then went to the command line and typed in:

sudo ./bplabel -m 000058 -d hcart -o C00058

I get the error:

Error reported by media operation: resource request failed

What am I doing wrong?  Is there a better way than bplabel to accomplish this?

VMware backup is not running on its Vcenter

I need a solution

Hi,

I have one VMware type policy with selections of client automatically through query. I have 4 VMs daily running on this policy with ABC as Vcenter host.

Today, there was an another XYZ Vcenter host which was not connected and my backup of this VMware policy gets failed with error code 4234. I am wondering that if this policy needs ABC Vcenter credentials  (Datastore resides in this VM), why this policy is getting failed when an another Vcenter(XYZ) is not connected.

Please help me.
