OPScenter compatibility

I need a solution

Hello,

I just made a new backup site with Netbackup 7.7.2, it has a Virtual master and a physical media server. All is working fine. But I monitor all my sites, of which the other sites run on NBU 7.6.0.4, with OPS-center. And this is the onlything what doesn't work yet.

The new 7.7.2 Master is partially conected. The OPS-center is version 7.6.0.4 too. Could it be the fact that the new master is of a higher version?

The OPS-center runs on Win 2008r2
The new master runs on Win 2012r2

Rob

I need a solution

Good day all,

I just deployed a new Netbackup environment and need some assistance please. I apologise if this has already been asked but I cant seem to find anything with the same issue as what I am experiencing.

I have 2 x Exchange 2010 SP3CU11 boxes running on top of Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. The initial granular backup worked perfectly with no errors. I have done all the necessary config with the "Replace a level token" and added the user to the correct groups etc, however my Incrementals been trying to run and failing with the following errors in the job log;

<LOG1>

03/03/2016 16:20:06 - Critical bpbrm (pid=6424) from client server1.company.here: FTL - snapshot preparation failed - Error attempting to find volumes to snap., status 130

03/03/2016 16:20:06 - Critical bpbrm (pid=6424) from client server1.company.here: FTL - snapshot preparation failed - Error attempting to find volumes to snap., status 130

</LOG1>

<LOG2>

</LOG2>

<LOG3>

03/02/2016 18:00:27 - Critical bpbrm (pid=124166) from client server2.company.here: FTL - snapshot preparation failed - Unable to backup Exchange database. It may not be mounted., status 71

Could not fetch snapshot metadata or state files  (4207)

</LOG3>

I have done the following;

- Checked the location "C:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\online_util" to ensure that permissions are correct on the folder

- Restarted VSS on the client

- Checked that the DBs are in fact mounted in Exchange

- Forward and reverse records working ok with bpclntcmd

- Check the credentials for the Service Account that runs the Exchange Backup

- Checked that its in the correct groups and has the correct Local Security Settings

I dont understand how one backup performs perfectly and then anything after that does not complete successfully.

I look forward to your replies.

Thank you kindly!

Backuping up DMZ Server

I need a solution

Hello;

We have a DMZ server that needs to be backed up weekly.  I've pulled several documentation from the Veritas site in regards to it, I just need a couple questions answered.

1.  If I open ports 10,000-10,025 and dynamically assign these ports to B/E, what direction does commuinication flow.  Since this server is on the DMZ I'm trying to stop any bad traffic from impacting my internal network.

2.  I'm trying to utilize B/E agent so I can get a decient backup :)

Any thoughts would help.

I need a solution

Hi all.

I test NDMP backup performance for a particular storage appliance, which involves writing and running scripts that perform backup and restorations, using up to ten tape drives across two different tape libraries at a time.  These scripts use bpbackup and bprestore, and each job uses ten different policies, rather than multiple sources in a single policy.  Functionally, the scripts all work fine.  Except...

The backup jobs kick off fine, all drives are loaded as quickly as the robots will allow and much data is written to all ten drives simultaneously.

The restore jobs all get kicked off, but only run serially!  That is, all jobs are submitted and are visible to the activity monitor and bpdbjobs, and the first job gets its tape loaded and reading commences, but the rest of the jobs just sit there waiting for the first job to finish.  Only then will the next tape be picked up by the robot and inserted into the tape drive, and the next job in line starts reading.  This continues, one job at a time, until all jobs have completed.

The usual problem seen with folks not using the full contingent of available drives is that the "max concurrent write drives" value for the storage unit is not set correctly, but this is for reading, and when writing, all drives get used.

This has stumped the folks within my organization!  Any hints as to the cause here will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

reveal disk provisioning type for backed-up VM

$

Hello,

there is a following best practise for VMware restores:

"SAN transport offers the best performance on thick disks, but the worst performance on thin disks, because of round trips through the disk manager APIs, AllocateBlock and ClearLazyZero. For thin disk restore, NBDSSL is usually faster, and NBD is even faster."

But how to find out VM type of disk provisioning at the time of backup from NetBackup? It must know about it, because during restore options, it offers to keep original provisioning or to change it.

So I would like to know it in advance, to determine optimal restore transport mode.

Slow Network Throughput

I need a solution

Hi Guys,

I'm using and old version, 12.5 with a Tanberg LTO4 HH and the network throughput has dropped by 20% making the jobs run over so I'm not getting a full backup in one 24hr period.  The local server backups are unchanged in speed so the issue must be on the network.  Things I've tried so far are:

Changed scsi cable and terminator from a different working tape drive.

Reinstalled the agent

Restarted the server

Installed a seperate 1Gb switch and moved the backup server and a couple of the targets on to it.

Cleaned the drive.

I've also run the Tanberg diagnostics and the firmware is up to date and throughput in the diag tool is 4000Mb/s + with no errors.

Any help appreciated as I'm out of things to try.  I and my collegue can't think of anything on the network that has changed which could have caused this.

Thanks,

Stu

I need a solution

I have a windows 2008 file server A,  but my AD domain controller is another machine B, normally AD profile of each company user is backed up.

I should install agent of backupExec 2012 in machine B and install backup Exec 2012 in machine A?

my full backup is around 2.3 TB, I can restore a particular user 's profile in file server, where Backup Exec is installed.

But I have another windows server C(not joining the domain), is it able to restore from there? can I copy the backup set for that particular user's profile into server C and restored from server C?

Thanks

I need a solution

Hello all,

First of all i would like to provide my excuse for my poor english writing, i'm french.

I come today on this forum to query advices and solutions for the problem i'm going to report here.

i just come to deploy a netbackup environnement with these architecture:

netbackup version: 7.6.1

- Principal Site:

Rôles:

backup VMWare virtual machines (hypervisor network) thru media-hyp-princ.domain.fr network interface

backup clients for physical servers (backup network) thru master-princ.domain.fr of the master and media-princ.domain.fr for the media

NDMP backup

  • Operating system: Windows 2012R2 for master and media
  • one VM (VMWare): master server/EMM, one network interface on backup network (master-princ.domain.fr)
  • One physical server:  MSDP with one dedup pool attached
  • MSDP is multi-homed: one network interface on hypervisor network (bonding SFP+ 10Gb, media-hyp-princ.domain.fr), one network interface on backup network (bonding SFP+ 10Gb, media-princ.domain.fr)
  • MSDP FQDN is configured on hypervisor network hostname (media-hyp-princ.domain.fr)
  • The media gateway is on the backup network, on the network interface media-princ.domain.fr
  • The master gateway is on the backup network, on the network interface master-princ

-Secondary site:

Rôle: AIR (Auto image Replication)

  • One netbackup appliance 5230: master/media
  • MSDP FQDN is configured on backup network hostname (master-sec.domain.fr)
  • MSDP has just one bonding SFP+ 10Gb on backup network (master-sec.domain.fr)

Each backup (VMs and clients) on the principal site are replicated via AIR to the secondary domain (using SLP)

i've checked the network client backup flow and all transits thru the backup vlan (media-princ.domain.fr), that we want

And the VMWare backup is on the same VLAN (hypervisor vlan) so the backup flow transits thru media-hyp-princ.domain.fr network interface

All works great but....

The deduplication pool is attached to the MSDP hostname media-hyp-princ.domain.fr, on the hypervisor VLAN and i try to associate media-princ.domain.fr to the MSDP that it could be recognize as media-princ.domain.fr and media-hyp-princ.domain.fr

i've added media-princ.domain.fr as media server and you ca see below the nbemmcmd.exe -listhosts result:

<netbackup_install_path\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>nbemmcmd.exe -listhosts
NBEMMCMD, Version: 7.6.1
The following hosts were found:
server           master-princ.domain.fr
master           master-princ.domain.fr
media            media-hyp-princ.domain.fr
ndmp             media-hyp-princ.domain.fr
remote_master    master-sec
virtual_machine  vcenter.domain.fr
replication_host master-sec
media            media-princ.domain.fr
ndmp             vuserhomedata-cl1.domain.fr
Command completed successfully.

media-princ.domain.fr and media-hyp-princ.domain.fr appear on the media list from the netbackup windows administration console as media server.

As you can see, media-princ.domain.fr and media-hyp-princ.domain.fr are the same physical media server but on differents vlans

Why i want to do this ?

because when i try to backup Active Directory servers with granular recovery, client backed up try to communicate with media-hyp-princ.domain.fr, and this is the only error i encounter.

Below the nbfsd logs on the client:

12:25:18.724 [472.2344] <2> logparams: <install_path_netbackup_client>\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\nbfs mount -server media-hyp-princ.domain.fr -port 7394 -retry 11 -cred ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUV (cred volontary replaced for copy on this forum)
12:25:18.739 [472.2344] <2> rpc_connect: connecting to media-hyp-princ.domain.fr
12:25:39.753 [472.2344] <16> rpc_connect: can't create TCP connection to media-hyp-princ.domain.fr (12 10060), will retry...
12:25:44.760 [472.2344] <2> rpc_connect: connecting to media-hyp-princ.private.univ-tlse3.fr
12:26:05.773 [472.2344] <16> rpc_connect: can't create TCP connection to media-hyp-princ.domain.fr (12 10060), will retry...
12:26:10.781 [472.2344] <2> rpc_connect: connecting to media-hyp-princ.domain.fr
12:26:31.810 [472.2344] <16> rpc_connect: can't create TCP connection to media-hyp-princ.domain.fr (12 10060), giving up

  • I've tried to manually debug using this methode below but replacing media-hyp-princ.domain.fr by media-princ.domain.fr:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH...

and it works....

  • i've tried to create medi-hyp-princ.domain.fr alias with media-princ.domain.fr instead of declaring media server media-princ.domain.fr
  • I've tried to modify hosts file on the client to backed up with the IP adress of media-princ.private.domain.fr for media-hyp-princ.domain.fr
  • i've tried preferred network

QUESTIONS:

  • 1) Do i have to re-install everything from scratch using medi-princ.domain.fr as MSDP name ? i found the link below:

             https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000072756

            Perhaps is it the best solution for me because i have a lot of production backup on the media

  • 2) If i do this, do will i have trouble to backup virtual Machines with a deduplication pool attached on a MSDp on backup VLAN (media-princ.domain.fr)
  • 3) I've tried to associate media-princ.domain.fr to the Storage Unit (PureDisk, dedup-pool) but it doesn't appear (i know that it must be a MSDP and not alonely a media server). Can i configure a second MSDP (with differents credentials and different name) on the same server ? i think no

Because MSDP is declared on hypervisor vlan, my responsible wants i re-install everything....

After such a big works, i'm desesperate in the idea to re-install everythings, i did all the research, test, and implementation alone, without help, this represent months of work, but in my test environnement, my media wasn't on multiple network, just on the hypervisor network, so i did the same configuration on my pre-production architecture and i think now this is a mistake to configure my MSDP on the hypervisor network

Thanks a lot in advance for your advices and solutions

Just discovered that Opscenter requires vnetd (13724) access to master servers for master server add.

This does not seems to be mentioned in the network port guide.

When 13724 is not open inbound on the master, you get a Opscenter-10940 error.

hello!

I would like to ask some help!

Im new in backup exec therefor very hard to solve this problem.

I installed manualy an agent on server 2003 which is in WORKGROUP (x86 - sp2) what ran well.

I set the mediaserver on client, where it has to publish data, and restart the service. After this i can see that server in the backup tab/windows systems, but if i want to select, i get an error message:

An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of srv-xxx.

The logon account that was provided not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again.

We use novell authentication, but neither my account nor local administrator account don't work.

When i try the "Connect as..." i get the same error.

What should i do?

Than you for your help!
