May NIC bonding on linux media server cause backup failure with network error

I need a solution

Hello Everyone,

We have 4 media server running RHEL 6.1, netbackup 7.6.0.1.

Storage target is DataDomain

Master server is Solaris 10, running netbackup 7.6.0.1

all 4 media servers have bonding configured. ex.as below:

below is bonding status of one of the media server :

Link speed is 10gbps for each nic

I am seeing my  huge file servers full backup is only failing with code 13/24 and its failing randomly after 50gb, or lets say 1 tb.

Even Oracle jobs are failing intermitently with Network error.

No issues with incremental backup.

Testing of one full backup with one of the media server which does not have bonding was successfull without any retry.

logged a case with Symantec still no luck yet.

so does it look bonding may cuase network drop.

Kindly adivse, also let me know if any recommneded bonding/ mostly used bonding mode.

What is the best bonding mode.

BE 15 didn't see volumes on second partner of NetApp Cluster 8.3

I need a solution

We have NetApp FAS2240-4 with clustered data ontap 8.3. After adding NetApp to BE15 i added new backup task. I select the volumes to backup and BE15 displays only the first partners volumes. Why BE15 didn't see volumes second partner of clustered NetApp?

Catalog of Duplicate Backups on USB External Disks Failure

Hello All,

Can someone help me diagnose what the issue can be.

I have duplicated backup sets from an appliance before upgrading to R4.

The issue now is taht i have several external disks with the duplicates and the catalogs have different failures.

Sometimes the catalog is fast, sometimes slow.

I have used the following technote when the catalogs were not running at all,

but now the issue is that the priority for the working catalog is medium and i can't seem to change it to highest.

I tried copying the contents of the disk to the appliance and cataloging the files. This option did not work.

The network shutsdown at 6:30p.m and the running catalog is incomplete.

How can I change the priority of the catalog to highest and possibly cataloging only a few files.

SQL Server backup

I need a solution

My client has a SQL 2014 server for his Sharepoint 2013 server.

He said the the logs in the DB's continu to grow and he has a disk space issue.  Actualy we use a maintenance plan on the SQL server to take the backup of his DB and I dont see any option to shrink or purge the logs after the maintenance plan did the backup.

If I dont have the option in the maintenance plan to purge the logs, does we need to use a backup script? does the backup script which is create by Netbackup SQL Client can purge the logs when the backup is done? Do we have this option?

Need help with exclusion lists for DFSR

Hi guys,

Actual question after the intro.

I have a huge bottleneck in my backups because of my huge DFSR folders, which at the moment are backed up in one single stream when backing up the Shadow Copy Components.

Reading the NBU admin guide, they recommend you to, basically, split your backup job for your DFSR server in two, one (let's call it policy A) for the DFSR folders (you have to manually list all your DFSR folders in the backup selection list) and another (policy B) for everything else (all_drives in my case).

To achieve this without backing up those DFSR folders on B, I need to set up an exclusion list for my DFSR server (Master server\NBU mgmt\host properties\Clients\Properties\Windows Client\Exclude lists), and find a way to make B exclude

But make A to have an exception for

How do I achieve this? In the exclusion list, I can only create exclusions for all policies and all schedules. I can't see a way to apply the exclusion list to B, and the exception list to A...

Inexplicable Final error: 0xe0001204

The scenario is...

Source and Destination: Exchange 2007 SP3 (with GRT enabled) allowing VSS to select the snapshot provider.

Previous media server that performed backup: Server 2008 SP2 running Backup Exec 2012

Current media server attempting to perform restore: Server 2008 R2 SP1 running Backup Exec 2012

GRT restore of a user's selected Inbox subfolders is failing with the error 0xe0001204 - The path on the Backup Exec server for staging temporary restore data when restoring individual items must be on a local NTFS volume on the Backup Exec server.

This e0001204 error appears whether I restore to PST or to the original location.  Going to try restoring to RSG as a long shot once I can throw some more disk on the Exchange server, but in case anyone has seen this before I figured I'd ask here.  We are a nonprofit with a NFR version of BE, so no support.  In hindsight this NFR is almost costing more than buying the full retail...but I digress.

The staging path *is* a local NTFS volume on the media server (log file references the correct staging location), the BE system account has full control of the staging path, and the system account has a mailbox on the Exchange server being backed up / restored.

The version or service pack level of Exchange has not changed between the backup and the failed restore.

The storage groups and databases have not changed since the backup, and since the destination and source servers are one and the same, the same Organization and AdministrativeGroup names persist.

The destination database has been configured to be overwritten.

The Virtual File Filter (VFF) driver on the Exchange server is installed, started, and running correctly.

I can restore the EDB and log files if I redirect to a folder, but then I'd need a (non-cheap) third party tool to extract the desired folders.

Any advice on what to tweak or try next?

Backup failing with error 58

I need a solution

Hi,

I have newly installed netbackup client agent 7.5 on the windows 2003 x86 machine, backup is failing with error 58

Master is linux 7.5.0.6 and media is windows (7.5.0.6)

normal ping is working fine. but bptestbpcd is not working.

i have enabled the logs in client sever but no logs are generated in the logs.

Please find the attachment of bptestbpcd from master and out of bpclntcmd -pn from client.

from client end ports are reachable to both media and master.

windows firewall is diabled

Telnet is connected for bpcd, vnetd and pbx but its getting hung and not exiting...will this be a issue?

Please let me know what else to be checked and get this backup successful.

Moving tape from Daily pool to scratch pool

I have NBU 7.6.0.4.
Backing up just 2 client machines.
Device connected is a stand alone tape drive.
Yearly backup is scheduled on 25th Dec.
Local facilities is going for vacation from 24th. Hence on 23rd morning, I excluded daily backup for 23rd and 24th and inserted a scratch tape for the yearly backup.
I missed to exclude daily catalog backup.
Today is 24th and when I verified the tape obviously I saw catalog backup occupied the tape and the media pool is changed to DAILY.
Now I have to expire the catalog image from the tape.

On NBU gui, Catalog >> Choose the tape >> List the catalog images >> right click and expire.

I went to reports >> Tape reports >> Images on tape Shows as below.

I went to reports >> Tape reports >> Tape contents Shows as below.

How Image on tape differs from tape contents ?

I went to media, right click and change pool to scratch. It said "Cannot change media pool of assigned media"

Later I tried this blog: http://www.veritas.com/community/blogs/how-expire-backup-images-move-media-scratch-pool which helped me to change the media to scratch tape.

Now when I check tape contents still it shows the same results.

My second question is, since I'm using a stand alone tape drive, is there a way I can set the tape drive not to eject the existing tape out if the desired media is not in the drive ?

Duplicate job from Backup to Disk folder to tape fails with Error "0xe000848f - Insufficient disk space

I need a solution

I run backup Information store on Exchange server 2007 by Backup Exec 15 FP1.

First I use backup to disk and then duplicate from disk to tape.

When I run this job, backup to disk job is fine but duplicate disk to tape fail.

The error show "0xe000848f - Insufficient disk space"

Can anyone suguest me how to solve this?

We have upgraded the Exchange server to 2010 and we want to restore some old mailbox of Exchange 2007, but it was failing.

Is there any possibility to restore the Exchange 2007 mailbox to 2010.

If not, is there any alternative to restore the mailbox.

I need a solution

Hi all.

I've been running my backup on this oracle database server through a Windows 2003 R2 server for at least 4 years running & backing it up with no errors whatsoever. But recent the only significant change is that I've upgraded the client from 7.5 to 7.6.1.2. Apart from that I don't remember doing any other major changes. And it started to fail the backup only from the 23/12/2015 & this is the 24/12/2015 logs.

Any suggestions so why this is so? I've checked the script's security rights it's OK, the windows 2003 server log files says that it's not the primary server & then closes it. I can ping both servers from client to backup server vice-versa. And the failed job schduled keeps on saying "Null" but when I checked the job schedule, nothing was changed. I've tried all the simple troubleshooting but still, it's not working. Any suggestions to what I can do to solve this? Do advise, thanks.

Install remote agent are in grey

Hi all,

Any knows why the options that worked fine a couple days ago, today are in grey and isn't possible to choose them? In particular, I need to reinstall agent in a many computers, but I can't. The option "Install Agents and Maintenance Services on Remote Computers" appears in grey. I reviewed the instruction on the TECH000019530 but this value is ok.

System state restore Error windows server 2003 client

Good morning everyone

I'm expiriencing trouble restoring system state on a windows client.

I'm following this procedure:

On the system state restore step I get error 2080 when I try to restore differential  backups with over-write option, just like the article states.

I did this on a test server before and it went ok, only restore system state from a full backup there was no need for differentials.

Has anyone expirience this before ???.

Any help would be appreciated

Hello Experts,

We have to restore a virtual machine. we can see all its Cumulative backups that were done on the past last 6 days but no Full backup can be seen in last 6

days.

we restored the Vmware backups from cumulative (Oldest and Newest)  its successfully restored on NBU console but other team can not turn it on that is the problem(Its stuck on system revovery option after boot)  thats why we are restoring it from last backup.

So my question is as its a cumulative backup and there is no  full backup in the last week thats why it can not restore the data.

Pls help.

Hi,

i am running Backup Exec 15 Vray Edition.

My Hypervisor is Windows Server 2012 R2.

Can i backup the Symantec Messaging Gateway virtual machine - its a linux VM?

When I try to add it as a server in Backup Exec 15 i get the following message:

The server was unable to complete the requested task

possible cause:

A communication failure occured when attempting to connect to this server.....

Is this supported?

I am using version 10.6.0-5 of the Symantec Messaging Gateway

new vm backup getting 156 error

Hi All,

Sorry this is a repost from a few days ago, not sure how but I mistakenly deleted two duplicated posts on this thread.

We have a vm backup just recently put on the backup scheduled that is getting the 156 error code. It has been getting the code from the start therefore no

backup has successfully completed (full or incremental).

Here is some answers to questions that I believe was posted before I deleted the two duplicate threads.

What is the Policy type? VMware policy
What do you have in Backup Selection in the Policy? All local drives

This machine was rebooted and has vm tools up until recently it was backing up as a physical machine.

It is a Windows 2003 R2 machine

The bpfis log, the bpcd log and the vssadmin writers command have been attached.

Windows backup getting code 69 invalid filelist specification

Hi,

We have a backup that is consistanly getting a code 69 invalid filelist specification . (incrementals, accelerated fulls and fulls) the vssadmin command shows no errors

Unable to backup System State or Shadow Copy. Please check the state of VSS and associated Writers.

I have attached logs to this thread and the vssadmin writers command results.

Windows 2003 sp2

Netbackup Client level 7.6.0.3

Fyi – media server size is 56TB
