Slow backup speed to Dedupe

I need a solution

Hello!

We have BE 2015 (14.2 rev 1180) with a problem of slow backup operations.

We have a clustered file server, with empty file structure as client.
At BE we have 2 disk storages:
1) Deduplication disk
2) Advanced disk

All this disks are presented via the same storage system on raid 5 by SAN. I think that storage is not a bottleneck.

When we make backup to dedupe, it goes for ~20 Minutes (Empty file system on client!)
If we change the destination to advanced disk, it goes only 30 seconds, I think it's a normal speed.

The long operations on backup to dedupe are:
Queued ~ 2 minutes
Loading media ~ 10 minutes
Verify ~ 10 minutes

How can we improve performance for dedupe disk?

In BE 12.5 on Win Svr 2003 my backup jobs are completing with exceptions.. 12 files skipped. Most are related to Symantec Endpoint Protection:

Unable to open the item C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\12.1.5337.500.105\Bin\xxxxxxxxxx.dat - skipped

there's also Unable to open the item C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\tmp.edb - skipped

Should I be worried about these?

Empty backup of LUN disks in cluster with Dfrs

I need a solution

My customer used to backup the Clustername successfully.

Since he activated Dfsr the backups of the volumes with shares will succeed but the resulting backup set is empty, even when excluding the Dfsr-Private folder.
The other volumes, without shares backup fine.

According to the dubious note on this technote the behaviour experienced by the customer is expected.

NOTE: Do not select the DFS or DFSR drive letters under the "File Server" or DFS /DFSR Cluster Name. If the drive are selected under Cluster Name the data is automatically excluded from backup due to Active File Exclusion on the DFS / DFSR folders.

Is backing up through the nodes a good alternative? According to the customer he runs into problem when the disk switches between nodes.
Any design suggestion?

Need to upgrade nbu5230 2.6.0.4 to 2.7.1

Hello NBU gurus,

I need to upgrade NBU appliance 5230 from 2.6.0.4 to 2.7.1 version as per document i will need double upgrade that is from 2.6.0.4 to 2.6.1.2 first and then from 2.6.1.2 to 2.7.1 this is appliance is assigned a role of media server before upgrade as per document it is saying "Always perform a full disaster recovery (DR) backup prior to making any
changes to your environment" need guidance regarding what steps for media server appliance needs to be taken so if in case of disaster i have full recovery of this media server appliance.

Policy Overwrite

I mistakenly removed many clients from one policy and applied it.I mean i overwrite it.

Pls help to get all the clients. Master server is win2008 R2 and Netbackup is 7.6.0.3

Plugin query fails with status 37

I am running a query on various plugins at C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpstsinfo -pi -stype and i see a result for PureDisk,

C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpstsinfo -pi -stype PureDisk

Plugin Info:

        Plugin Name: libstspipd.dll

        Prefix: PureDisk:

        Label: OpenStorage PureDisk Plugin

        Build Version: 11

        Build Version Minor: 2

        Vendor Version: 8.0100.0014.1016 01:27:02 Oct

but  other plugins fail with Status 37

Example:

Question, why are the other plugins failing?

I need a solution

I went through the documentation and followed along on the web install instructions, but step 8 seems to be a no go for me. When I login to the Web Client there is no Netbackup data in there at all. Not sure what I may have missed here, but if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

You can see below that I have both the thick and web client plugins installed, but for some reason nothing is showing up in the web client.

Desk Icon of SSR 2013 R2 has changed

Hi

In order to not pollute the last thread concerning SSR 2013 running  with windows 10 , I open a new thread .

I have noticed that the icon desk of SSR 2013 R2  ( Version 11.1.4.55331) has changed 2 days ago . Yellow typical icon of SSR 2013 has changed and became neutral icon ( as a  file ) . See the capture . But I can launch SSR2013 R2 from this icon

I am checked in C:/Programmes Files /Symantec/Symantec System Recovery/console and I was able to find the application  target (VproConsole_.exe) . There is also an another application VProConsole.exe ( with a good  symantec yellow icon) which also allows to launch SSR 2013 R2. See capture 

I wonder what happen ? Why ?

The only difference betwwen these 2 applications is the dash ( after Console and before .exe ).

I think that is not too grave , but I would like why and I would like correct that

CANNOT FIND UPDATE SP4 in SIM

I need a solution

I was searching for update SP4 on SIM but it doesn't show up. I saw that SP4 requires to update notification server from 7.5 SP1 to 7.6. I did the update, still nothing. Only HF7 for 7.6 was shown. I installed also that, but still no SP4 is shown for SSR 2013 R2. What am I doing wrong?

I have read some explanations on Veritas Website to use SSR 2013 with Windows 10 .

It was question to modify , cpy and pas the VproSvc . exe file in the directory of C:/Program/ Symantec ....

I don't find the item .

Please could you give me the reference .

dbsrv12 process consuming memory

I need a solution

We have a windows media server in our setup. It is a physical host, which is also acting as a Backup host and Opscenter server. A process dbsrv12 is running on it and consuming lots of memory (around 6 GB). No SEPM is installed on this server. As antivirus Trendmicro is in use. I am not sure why process dbsrv12 is running on media server (this process does not run on UNIX media servers and ideally should run only on master server) and why is it consuming this much memory. details as followed:

Windows 2008 R2

NBU 7.6.0.3

Media server/ OpsCenter Server/ Physical Backup Host.

Hiccups of large data being backed up

I need a solution

Hi, 

we have an installation with Symantec Backup Exec 2015 running with around 4TB of data to backup on a daily basis on a NAS drive.  At the moment, the time to run a full backup takes around 3 days and 10 hours to complete, with seems at an average of 950MB/Min.

At the moment the best strategy we found is to take 1 full backup on Friday (being that Saturdays and Sundays they dont do much work) and then incrementals on weekdays.  The issue is, as one might imagine that the full backup is still being performed during Mondays.  We seperated the verify job from the backup however the Monday incremental is still skipped.  

Further to that the NAS drive is of around 6TB so we can only allow 1 full backup and the rest incrementals and before the second full is taken we have to delete the last weeks full which is not ideal as we would then delete all backup jobs on friday.  Any ideas on how we can improve the backing up as we are not too happy with the solution?  Our idea was to perform the full backup every 2 weeks or 3 however we are not too sure this is a good idea neither.

Backup Rate slow

I need a solution

 currently use backup exec 2014 to backup our existing hyperv and hyperv cluster environment.  I am experiencing slow backups in certain circumstances and I am wondering if anyone can add some insight.

If I schedule a onetime backup on 1 virtual machine (snapshot) only I get some pretty good throughput (anywhere fro 2000MB per minute to 4000MB per minute).  if I run a scheduled backup on the hyperv server that has multiple VM's scheduled to be backed up and run that I am getting about 400mb per minute.  of course if there are multiple backups running then the throughput goes down to 200 to 300 mb per minute.

any thoughts on how I can get better throughput?  I have to say I am puzzled as whe I run a onetime backup things run fine.

Backup Exec support failure

I need a solution

Has anyone else had trouble reaching Backup Exec support since the split from Symantec? I tried to upgrade a site from 2010 to 15 last week. I created a case last Monday and received a call on Tuesday. I worked with support and they decided the case need to be escalated. I was told I'd get a call in 24 hours. When that didn't happen I emailed the support rep, updated the case, and requested escalation. No response.

I was never assigned a Veritas rep so I reached out to Symantec. They got me in touch with a Veritas rep that in turn got me in touch with the higher level support rep assigned to my case. He confirmed that I would get a call this morning at 9 AM CST. That was over an hour and a half ago with no response. I've been trying to get ahold of anyone at Veritas or Symantec. At this point I've waited a week with no communication from support. It's as if no one cares.

the option is greyed out - do i need a full back up first? Can i do this to a Win7 box?

what are the limitations of P2V in BU15?

Can I run the "NetBackup plug-in for vSphere Web Client" while at the same time run the "NetBackup plugin for VMware vCenter"? Or are they mutually exclusive?

Restore in different location, But no files at folder (EMPTY)

We are using Windows 2012 Operating system with BACKUP EXEC 2014, When we try to restore in original it done, But in different location it restore empty folders their is no files, but the job history is successful.

We also reinstall the BACKUP EXEC 2014 but still the problem is their, This problem is exist more than a month, I am in a critical suitvation Pls Help me......

Hello Team,

We are trying to inititate restore in my new netbackup master server ( Version NBU 7.7.1, OS:Linux)

Client Server NBU Versin 7.6.01, OS : SunOS

Getting below error and even failure lot not generating in nbu console.

sbttest test
The sbt function pointers are loaded from libobk.so library.

How to expire vault tape.

I need a solution

Hi all,

I want to expire vault tape. I have tryed to use the commands:

bpexpdate -m 0019L6 -d 0

bpexpdate -m 0019L6 -d 0 - force

I receive same message: no images were successfully processed

After, I had try to deassign tape without success:

/bpexpdate  -deassignempty -m 0019L6

Message received: No media matching criteria were found to be deassigned. no entity was found.

Could you help me for resolve it?
